They've been known for their ambitious, highly conceptual releases which have frequently divided critical opinion across America and abroad. The siblings behind this project (Matthew & Eleanor) grew up near Chicago in the suburb of Oak Park. The siblings have been compared to The White Stripes due to their sound and were signed to Rough Trade records in 2002, with later that year releasing their debut album, Gallowsbird's Bark.
Matthew is the mastermind behind their sound, composing and writing all of the music. Eleanor handles vocals for them while Andy Knowles (drums) and Toshi Yano (bass) fill out this impressive group that has been gaining popularity over time with performances at festivals such as All Tomorrow's Parties festival in England. The band was able to change up their setlist drastically by using songs from different albums and melding them together into one conglomerate.
Take Me Around Again with Fiery Furnaces tickets. The band's fifth album, Bitter Tea was released in April 2006 with heavy influence by synthpop group Devo and was their "poppiest" album to date. In October and November 2006, the band played short tours with San Francisco experimental rockers Deerhoof. Matthew is on keyboards for this tour; Eleanor takes up lead vocals while Jason Loewenstein plays wah-wah pedal guitar, along with Bob D'Amico on drums, plus additional percussion from Michael Goodman. Bitter Tea was played in a medley format as one long continuous loop.
