The Savannah Hockey Classic is an annual collegiate hockey tournament to showcase four of the premier college hockey programs in the South and includes the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, the University of Florida and Florida State. The tournament is held annually at the Savannah Civic Center in Savannah, Ga.
The first tournament took place in January of 1999, with the original teams including the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, the University of Florida and the University of Tennessee. The first winner of the tournament and taking home the champion trophy, called the Thrasher Cup, was Georgia Tech.

The game was a true classic, with Georgia fighting back from being down 1-2 to tie the game. After regulation, the teams battled to a standstill through two periods of overtime. It all came down to a shootout. Junior goaltender Brady Mulligan stopped all three shots by Georgia Tech while Senior Jack Ryan scored a goal for the Ice Dogs, making Georgia the Savannah Classic for the ninth time in the tournament’s history.
