The band Emmet Swimming was formed at George Mason University in 1990. The group is known for touring extensively.  The band signed with Epic/Sony Records after selling out Planet Nova, TT Reynolds and Fat Tuesday’s, all three staples of live music in Fairfax, Virginia. Emmet Swimming toured for seven years, each year performing 200-300 shows. They were included on the H.O.R.D.E tour and have supported the Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies and Galaxy Girl, from Charlotte North Carolina. The group has been nominated for multiple Washington Area music awards.

The first album for the band was dark when the snow falls, in 1993, followed by the wake in 1994, along with its re-release with Epic records in 1995.

Arlington to Boston was released in 1996, with its follow-up being 1998's Big Night Without You. The group released a live album in 1999 called Earplugs 50 cents. It wasn't until 2003 that the group released Bathing in the New Economy as an EP.  Ten years later she group came out with ...this kid walks into a bar.
