The band, led by Alejandro Lora, started playing in 1968 under the name of Three Souls in My Mind, releasing 15 albums on the RAFF record label before officially changing their name in 1985. Over the years, the group would experiment in a variety of styles including rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, acoustic rock, blues-rock and blues. However, the group became especially renowned for their massive influence in the development of Mexican rock music, even regarded by some as “the grandfathers of Mexican rock," "Mexico's quintessential working-class rock outfit,” and "Mexico's answer to the Rolling Stones." Considered Latin rock pioneers, El Tri tickets have been deemed a must-have for rock fans everywhere.
For a long time, rock & roll being sung in Spanish was not the most popular in Mexico, as the standard was to simply maintain the original English lyrics. El Tri followed this norm at first, largely performing covers of American rock and blues songs in English. However, at the Festival de Avándaro, aka "Mexico's Woodstock," they made a bold move, singing many of their songs in Spanish. This proved to be a game-changing decision for the band, who not only gained a whole new, vibrant following with their Spanish lyrics but also changed the way rock music was perceived in much of the Spanish-speaking world. Their debut album, Simplemente, became the first Mexican rock band to have a Gold-certified record, carried by hit singles "Triste Canción de Amor" and "Vicioso del Rocanrol." By 1992, the band's albums were consistently going Gold in Mexico, dominating the South American market and officially establishing themselves as bona fide rock & roll icons.
