The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1946 by Victor Norman, a Norwegian immigrant who led the orchestra for 35 years after its creation. The orchestra was originally called the New London Civic Orchestra, however, in 1954 it merged with the Willimantic Community Orchestra. The orchestra oftentimes plays in the astoundingly beautiful Garde Arts Center in New London, Conn. In 1967, the organization created a symphony chorus.
