The band came together in 2001 when the members met at a concert and bonded over their shared love of Japanese psychedelic rock. They took their name from a song by the 60s rock band Druids of Stonehenge.
After a lengthy series of mostly improvised rehearsals, Earthless released their first album Sonic Prayer in 2005. Their sophisticated musical stylings earned the group rave reviews, and in 2007 Sonic Prayer won the award for Best Hard Rock Album at the San Diego Music Awards. Earthless’ successes continued, and their sophomore release Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky earned the group a nod for the San Diego Music Award for Best Hard Rock Artist.
Earthless soon set off on a slew of tours across the US and UK alongside prominent psychedelic and instrumental groups Witch and Russian Circles. The band has been widely praised for their improvisational live shows in the vein of groups like The Grateful Dead, as well as their classic sound reminiscent of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
