The Dropout Kings, formerly known as Phoenix Down, are an American nu metal band from Phoenix, Ariz. The group formed in 2016 when Adam Ramey left his previous group and reached out to Eddie Wellz to cover a Linkin Park song. After the cover began doing well, Ramey asked previous bandmates Trevor Norgren, Staig Flynn and Rob Sebastian to join and asked Chucky Guzman from We The Collectors to make Dropout Kings.
Following in the footsteps of other rock bands such as Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, Dropout Kings fuse heavy metal sounds with hip-hop and trap music rhythms. The band dubs their style as “trap metal” and leads the charge into crafting this unique genre that gives it a fresh but familiar feeling. Their albums AudioDope and GlitchGang feature songs like “Scratch & Claw” and “Going Rogue.” These songs have the dynamic of thoughtful rap lyrics with bone-chilling and passionate vocals dusted over the rock tones of early 2000s music.
