He was raised in Harlem, New York and is an American rapper, record producer, and beatboxer. He is known as the pioneer of 20th-century beatboxing since he is able to accurately imitate drum machines and various special effects using only his mouth, lips, gums, throat, tongue, and a microphone.
In the early 1980s, he joined up with DJs Barry B and Chill Will to form the Get Fresh Crew. Shortly after, the group went on to add rapper Slick Rick to the lineup. The group gained fame with their hit songs like “The Show” and “La Di Da Di” which quickly became hip hop classics with “La Di Da Di” becoming one of the most sampled songs in music history. “The Show” peaked at #7 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1985. Over the years, he has collaborated and worked with various artists, including Cali Swag District, finalist of Season 6 of American Idol, Blake Lewis, and Vicious, a Brooklyn-born Jamaican teen newcomer who became Fresh’s protege.
