Watch an electrifying performance with Director's Choice tickets. The BalletMet was founded in 1971 and serves Central Ohio, with one of the largest professional companies in the United States performing both classic ballets and contemporary new pieces. BalletMet, under the leadership of Artistic Director Edwaard Liang, is putting on a performance of three short ballets with Director’s Choice.

The first dance is a performance of George Balanchine’s Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux. Balanchine, who lived from 1904 to 1983, was one of the 20th Century’s most influential ballet choreographers. His Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux was choreographed for the third act of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and was premiered by the New York City Ballet on March 29, 1960.

An excerpt from English contemporary choreographer Peter Wheeldon’s After the Rain, which differs from the classical and ethereal Balanchine piece in being filled with emotion and passion. After the Rain, with music composed by Arvo Part, had its premiere on January 22, 2005, at the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center.

The performance finale was choreographed by Liang, who was a dancer with the Nederlands Dans Theater and the New York City Ballet. Among the companies he has choreographed for are the Bolshoi Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet and the New York City Ballet. Liang introduces a new piece inspired by Max Richter’s reworking of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with this performance.
