The Denver Young Artists Orchestra, commonly referred to as just the DYAO, was established in 1977 by Betty Naster and Carl Topilow to deliver extraordinary orchestra instruction and training as well as to deliver a wide variety of opportunities to perform.
Alumni from the DYAO have gone on to attend elite universities and conservatories as well as to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras and opera companies in the world. DYAO members have gone on to perform with the Boston Symphony, the Metropolitan Opera, the Chicago Symphony and other elite organizations.

Kenney also serves as the Music Director of the Fort Collins Symphony as well as Director of Orchestras at Colorado University. In 2007, he won the Grand Prize in the Varna, Bulgaria International Conducting Competition. He was also named Educator of the Year in 2008 by the Colorado Chapter of the American String Teachers Association.
The DYAO has performed in Europe multiple times, under Kenney’s leadership. The group has also performed at Carnegie Hall, putting on two shows there in 2016.
