Later, the trio added James Young and John Curulewski into the group, which they named Tradewinds. This group would eventually be renamed Styx, and pave the way for DeYoung’s whole career. Before Styx took off, DeYoung worked as an elementary school teacher, performing with his band at small venues and school auditoriums. Of course, all of that soon changed with the release of Styx’s massive hit, “Lady.”
As a primary vocalist, keyboardist, producer, and songwriter for Styx, Dennis DeYoung is responsible for the majority of the group’s hits. One such album is the soundtrack to a musical version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame that DeYoung wrote. The musical itself debuted at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, TN to positive reviews. A diverse songwriter and multi-talented musician, DeYoung continues to bring his musical gifts to appreciative audiences across the country.
