This musician grew up with a musical family, as his father, Ellis Louis Marsalis Jr., was a pianist and music professor. Three of his brothers also became jazz musicians as a result of their father’s influence.

The performer’s first album, Pontius Pilate’s Decision, was released in 1992 and showcases his incredible talent as a trombonist. He released six more albums before the year 2000, at which time he founded the Uptown Music Theatre. This theatre in New Orleans aims to educate children and adults on the ways music can tell meaningful stories and have a profound influence on their lives. The trombonist was inspired to start the theatre by his brother Mboya, who is autistic. The theatre has trained over 300 youth and staged eight original musicals.

The musician also works as a record producer of acoustic jazz recordings with Tonight Show engineer Patrick Smith.
