The Daytona 200 is usually held in the spring season. The race was first put on in 1937 and the American Motorcycle Association, or AMA was the sanctioning body.
The race originated in Savannah, Ga., when the Southeastern Motorcycle Dealers Association organized a 200-mile course, using Class C Motorcycles that were typically used by the AMA Grand National Championship. The race was moved to Daytona in 1937. The original course was a beach course, which was redesigned in 1948. A paved closed circuit opened in 1959 and the Daytona 200 moved to it in 1961.
