The group was originally founded by Jesse Sendejas and Whitney Flynn, whose history with each other far precedes their days in music. With both growing up in Rosenberg, Texas and knowing each other since high school, they eventually founded Days N Dayz together in 2008, performing their first gig for a small crowd of patrons at a San Marcos, Texas coffee shop. Initially performing as a duo, they eventually would recruit a few more bandmates to complete their ensemble, with today’s outfit now also featuring Meagan Michelle on washboard and Geoff Bell on washtub bass. Together they began evolving their music into a type of folk-punk they called “H-Town Thrashgrass,” a mixture of both thrash punk and bluegrass, but with a twist that they feel honors the musical heritage of Houston.
Upon releasing their 2013 breakthrough album, Rogue Taxidermy, Days N Dayz tickets were suddenly in high demand, leading up to a series of extensive tours in the US, Canada and Europe. Even today, Rogue Taxidermy is still considered their most popular work, regarded by music writer Barry Thompson as "a proverbial doctoral thesis in bloody-fanged acoustic punk," while also noting, “Days N' Daze songs warrant discussion above and apart from any punk rock cliches.” Steeped in their strong thematic songwriting, no song of theirs is written without a larger purpose in mind, whether it be about anarchism, existential dread and mental health, or addiction and heartbreak. Authentic and intense, their music is filled with masterful acoustics and creative instrumentals, while complemented by the wide vocal range of their lead singers which ultimately creates the perfect formula for an awesome live show.
