Lindley began performing regularly in the folk music scene and in 1966 co-founded the psychedelic group Kaleidoscope was signed to Epic Records. In the 70s he began performing in the bands of major acts like Jackson Browne, James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt. The musicians' debut solo album, El Rayo-X, was released in 1981 and produced by Browne, going on to reach No. 34 on the Rock charts. With songs like “Mercury Blues and “She Took off My Romeos” the album became a fan favorite and he released a number of popular solo albums including 1982’s Win This Record and 1992’s A World Out of Time in collaboration with guitarist Henry Kaiser.
