She learned the violin when she was young, going on to study music at the Tampere Conservatory and later the Sibelius Academy. She found a passion for conducting as a young adult, studying the craft at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Stasevska was the artistic director of the Kamarikesä Festival for five years beginning in 2010, then became the assistant conductor for the Orchestre de Paris under Paavo Jarvi. In 2015 she was a guest conductor for the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, and three years later became the second woman to conduct the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in opening the Nobel Prize Awards.
After an impressive guest appearance with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2018, Stasevska became the first woman to be appointed the orchestra’s principal guest conductor. She also became the first woman to be made chief conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra in 2020, the same year she won the Conductor Award from the Royal Philharmonic Society.
