In 2014, she co-wrote and recorded the single “Fly Before You Fall” for the soundtrack of American musical drama Beyond the Lights, reaching Number 21 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. The following year, she released the album Cynthia Erivo and Oliver Tompsett Sing Scott Alan (2015) alongside fellow stage actor Oliver Tompsett and had her Broadway debut reprising her role as Celie in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of The Color Purple, winning a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2016.
