After a few years of successful collaborations, Franklin released his mixtape Welcome Back in 2004. In 2008, Curren$y left his previous label, Young Money, to pursue creative projects individually. He released Independence Day, his first project after leaving Young Money, in 2008. In 2009, Curren$y signed with Amalgam Digital and released his debut album This Ain't No Mixtape.

In 2010, Curren$y released his third album, Pilot Talk, which featured many popular hip-hop and rap artists, including Snoop Dogg, Big K.R.I.T and Mos Def. On February 1st, 2011, Curren$y announced that he would be owning and operating Jet Life Recordings, a hip-hop collective.

In February 2013, Curren$y released another mixtape featuring many popular artists such as Wiz Khalifa, French Montana and Juicy J, titled New Jet City. Currently, Curren$y is creating Pilot Talk III. The album has been in development since 2013. He has released several updates on the state of the album, including information about where it will be available, whether it will be streamed, and potentially the artwork for the album’s cover. In between his albums, he has been regularly releasing mixtapes, having released twelve in the year 2016.
