Started in 1968 by Larry Field, Cold Blood led the way in making the “East Bay Grease” sound part of mainstream music. They have influenced other bands including Blood Sweat and Tears, Tower of Power and Chicago. Lead singer Lydia Pense's vocal talents have been compared to Janis Joplin, who was responsible for getting Cold Blood an audition with Bill Graham, who ended up signing them.
Although the group disbanded in the 1970s, and Pense took time off to raise her daughter, she brought it back together in 1988. Cold Blood's current member lineup stabilized in the 1990s and included Steve Salinas (keyboard), Steve Dunne (guitar and vocals), Evan Palmerston (bass and vocals), Rich Armstrong (trumpet, percussion), Rob Zuckerman (saxophone) and Dana More (vocals). Cold Blood resumed their musical career and appeared playing “You Got Me Hummin’” live in Fillmore: The Last Days, a documentary about the final concerts at the Fillmore West auditorium in July 1971.
