The band was formed in 2009, and their current lineup consists of drummer Brandon Hill, singer Madison Marshall and guitarist Rorik Brooks. They released their self-titled debut EP in 2010 and their first full-length album Live at Vaggie Fest later that year. Cloud Rat plays a fast-paced, aggressive punk music style but regularly ventures into other genres, including heavy metal, industrial, and jazz. Their lyrics explore themes of angst and anti-capitalist rebellion through a uniquely abstract and quasi-spiritual perspective. Their 2013 album Moksha is perhaps the best example of this, as it equates sociopolitical resistance with religious liberation. 

Cloud Rat has been critically acclaimed by several publications, in particular for their spiritual focus normally foreign to the punk rock genre. They make frequent US and European tours of underground progressive rock festivals, where their hard-hitting yet motivational live performances have earned them a dedicated cult following. Cloud Rat is currently signed to Artoffact Records, through which they recently released their experimental album Do Not Let Me Off The Cliff.
