Jam out with Citizen tickets. Citizen is a rock band from Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio. After leaving his previous band, The Sound of Glory, Mat Kerekes formed the group in 2009. Additional members include Nick and Eric Hamm, along with vocalist Josh Childress and a second guitarist Joey Chester. Much of the early material from Citizen was melodic hardcore, a sound unlike their current music. The group's first demo was released shortly after its formation. On January 28, 2010, the band played its first show at Frankie's Inner City in Toledo, Ohio, where they opened for Set Your Goals.

In May 2011, the group performed at the Bled Festival. In 2012, Citizen went on a headline tour with State Champs and Candy Hearts as opening bands. Citizen began working on their first studio album in February 2013, Youth, at Studio 4 with producer Will Yip. It was released on June 11 of that year, and they played on the 2013 Vans Warped Tour after that. On June 23, 2015, Citizen released their second full-length album, Everybody Is Going to Heaven. The record charted at number two on Billboard's Vinyl Albums list.
