Born in Los Angeles in 1990, Hutson showed a gift for music at a young age. He began learning to play guitar as a child, writing his first songs as a teenager. As a young man he formed the folk band The Driftwood Singers with Pearl Charles, releasing the group’s debut EP We Will Never Break Up in 2012. In the years that followed, Hutson became known for a string of online music video releases of folk-rock hits such as “Castles In The Air,” “Ghost To Coast” and “They’re Gonna Hate Me.”
In 2014 Hutson further increased his exposure through a celebrated Daytrotter session that picked up traction online. He was soon discovered by singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, and the two began collaborating on several different projects. Hutson contributed to an EP by Bridgers’ supergroup Boygenius, as well as to her albums Better Oblivion Community Center and Punisher.
