Formed in Oklahoma City, Okla., Chat Pile is a 4-piece rock group that identifies as noise rock, which is characterized by heavy distortions using electric guitars. Formed in 2019, the group’s name comes from the piles of chat which are commonly found in Northeastern Oklahoma. Originally rejected by the OKC music scene which revolved mainly around shoegaze and hardcore punk music, their EP This Dungeon Earth kicked off their success. The project quickly topped the weekly charts on Rate Your Music. A year later, Chat Pile signed with the record label, The Flenser, and began working on releasing their debut album, God’s Country, in 2022. The album received critical acclaim from many established music publications like Rolling Stone’s “Best Metal Albums of the Year” and Pitchfork, which gave the album the “Best New Music” distinction. 

Fans of groups similar to Sonic Youth, Big Black, Portrayal of Guilt and the Velvet Underground should get Chat Pile tickets before they sell out. God’s Country is centered around real-world horrors which can be found described in hit tracks like “The Mask,” which covers a 1974 mass murder, and “Slaughterhouse,” which has more than a million plays on Spotify. The difficulties of dealing with drug addiction and homelessness are explored in the songs “Wicked Puppet Dance” and “Why” respectively. The lead singer of the L.A. post-hardcore band, Touché Amoré, claimed the album to be his favorite in 2022. Chat Pile’s music can be found on Spotify playlists like “New Blood.”
