He is most famous for his role, where he played Ryan Lavery from 1997 to 2011 on the daytime soap opera All My Children.
After graduating from McGill University, Mathison started to work as a model and doing commercial work in Canada, the United States and Europe. He then began to study acting and started to find roles in Toronto. His feature film debut was in 54. He then played the lead in the Canadian Independent film Washed Up.
