The Falcons beat the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs and set a record for the longest game in tournament history. Ice hockey has been at the school since the first part of the 1960s and was a hockey club. However, it was added as a varsity team in 1966 and joined the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) for the 1969-1970 season.
