More than 250 drivers from the United States and Canada come together to compete in twelve different events and provide four days of crashing action to satisfy the biggest demo derby fans. After debuting in Lincoln, Neb., in 2001, Blizzard Bash relocated to Topeka in 2010. Since then, it has grown in popularity every year and earned the title of “Best Demolition Derby in the World” in 2014 from Topeka’s WIBW radio station. Even though there are twelve events, the main one is the National Championship Team Show. It is a bracket-style tournament with sixteen four-person teams. The winning team gets a $20,000 grand prize, making it the richest event of the derby. The Qualifying Team Championship is similar to the National Championship, but the top two teams are guaranteed a spot in the next year’s National Championship Team Show and also receive cash prizes. The 80s and Newer Modified event has fifty drivers competing in heats for three days that get narrowed down to twenty contestants and the top five drivers win cash.
