The group currently operates as a quintet with Eric Earley on guitar, vocals and harmonica, Erik Menteer playing both guitar and keyboard, Brian Adrian Koch on the drums, and Michael Van Pelt contributing basslines that often fulfill lead duties when necessary. They released their first three albums independently before signing to Sub Pop Records in 2007. Wild Mountain Nation, their third album was met with much critical praise from such media outlets as Spin Magazine, The Nerve and Pitchfork Media to name just a few. Their lead off single "Wild Mountain Nation" made it on Rolling Stone's 100 Best Songs of 2007.
