Blackie and The Rodeo Kings’ debut LP, High or Hurtin': The Songs of Willie P. Bennett was an instant hit, and saw the group commit to becoming a band in their own right. In 1999 they released Kings of Love, which greatly increased their exposure when it won Canada’s Juno Award for Best Roots & Traditional Album. The runaway success saw them begin touring widely across the country.
The band then released Bark, a combination of original songs and covers by artists like David Wiffen and Bruce Cockburn. Blackie and The Rodeo Kings enjoyed another massive boost in exposure when the New York Times discovered their songs on the iPod of then-President George W. Bush. The band has since collaborated with high-profile artists like Vince Gill and Raul Malo.
