His influences include Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, Howlin’ Wolf, the Rolling Stones and others.
In the late 1970s, Prine served as tour manager for his brother. He was present when brother John recorded the album Pink Cadillac in 1979 at the Sam Phillips recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee. Prine became one of the original bartenders at the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville, Tennessee at its opening in 1982.

During this period, Prine would also periodically travel back and perform in Chicago with his band Billy and the Bangers.
In the 1990s, Prine hosted the radio series Live from Mountain Stage with Oh Boy Records through Blue Plate Records. He also functioned as the overnight deejay on the radio station Lightning 100 – WLRT100.1 FM in Nashville. Prine’s album A Place I Used to Know was released in 2020.
