He would study sonology, the study of sound in various disciplines, at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He adopted the stage name Benny Sings in 1999 after joining the Dutch hip-hop group Abstract Dialect and began working with the hip-hop collective De Toffen and soul group Heavenly Social.
He released his first album as Benny Sings, Champagne People, in 2003 which saw success in the Netherlands and throughout Europe. He broke through in the United States in the 2010s, partially thanks to his 2011 album, Art. The album features one of the singers' biggest singles, “Big Brown Eyes” which has garnered well over 10 million plays on Spotify alone as well as “All We Do for Love”. In 2021, Sings released the critically acclaimed full-length, Music, on Stones Throw Records. The album features appearances from Mac DeMarco and Tom Misch and fan-favorite songs like “Sunny Afternoon”. Benny Sings has earned praise from music icons like John Mayer and Anderson.Paak.
