Elton rose to international fame, however, in the mid-’80s. It was then the comedian helped create the historical comedy series Blackadder, which went on to win four BAFTAs and an Emmy. With a worldwide reputation now in hand, Elton began touring the stand-up comedy circuit. He quickly became one of the UK’s most significant comics, and by 1990 was the host of the UK version of Saturday Night Live.
