The band’s frontman, Zach Condon, was inspired to create the band when he was 17 as he was traveling across Europe. While traveling, Condon was infused by the different musical genres he discovered. These world music elements heavily influenced Beirut’s music. While in college, Condon started focusing on a music career and recorded his first album, Gulag Orkestar, in his bedroom. After completing the album, Condon invited other musicians to join his project. With a newly formed band, Beirut released the album The Flying Cup Club in 2007. The band began to gain wider popularity as they started touring the world to support the release of the album.
