Italian classical pianist Beatrice Rana made an international splash when she won first prize at the Montreal International Competition in 2011 aged 18 and the silver prize at the Van Cliburn Competition. Signed to a contract with Warner Classics, she has released two well-received albums, 'Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 2; Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1' (2015) and 'Bach: Goldberg Variations' (2017), which went to number one on the UK Official Specialist Classical Chart.
When Gramophone named her Young Artist of the Year, the magazine noted that young musicians tend to impress either with the exuberance of youth or with a poised and wise technique and said, "A few minutes with the playing of Beatrice Rana leaves you in no doubt which category she is in." Born in Copertino on the heel of Italy to professional pianist parents, she learned to play the piano as a child, made her first public appearance at the age of nine and by the time she was a teenager she performed regularly with top orchestras across Europe.
Successes at major music competitions led to her debut album 'Chopin: 26 Préludes; Scriabine: Sonate No. 2 Op. 19' in 2012 follwed the next year by 'Beatrice Rana: Silver Medalist'.
She has played at festivals and in concert halls around the world and performed with the symphony orchestras of Birmingham, Detroit, London, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. In July 2017 she performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Davis in 'Prom 13: Malcolm Sargent's 500th Prom' to mark 50 years since the legendary conductor died. The concert at the Royal Albert Hall recreated Sargent's 500th Prom with music by Elgar, Holst, Walton and Berlioz plus Schumann's 'Piano Concerto'.
The New York Times named her 'Goldberg Variations' release one of the 25 best classical music recordings of 2017 and said "what she displays here is playing of preternatural sensitivity, sophistication and control, along with a touch of magic". Whether it’s a grand symphony in a prestigious concert hall or a chamber music performance, there’s something all fans of classical music will enjoy.
