Kabanen formed Beast in Black in 2015 in the wake of the dissolution of his previous band Battle Beast. Within two years Beast in Black had signed with Nuclear Blast and released their critically acclaimed debut album Berserker. Berserker was a charting success in Europe and the UK, and a top ten hit in the band’s native Finland.

In 2018 the band set off on its first series of tours alongside the high-profile rock group Nightwish, then released their sophomore album From Hell with Love the following year. The release saw Beast in Black make their first headlining appearances in Europe alongside industrial artists Turmion Katilot. The band again enjoyed charting success with their 2021 concept piece Dark Connection, which made heavy use of references to sci-fi classics like Blade Runner.
