Get ready for the ride of your life during two nights of intense action and fun with Battle for the Bluff tickets. Held in Dubuque, Iowa, the Battle for the Bluffs Rodeo features three premier events: bull riding, bareback bronc riding and saddle bronc riding. Bull riding, often called “the most dangerous eight seconds in sports," consists of a rider trying to stay on top of a bucking bull for eight seconds while holding in with only his legs and one hand. Even if he hangs on that long, the danger continues when he jumps off and has to evade the bull's horns and hooves.
Bareback bronc riding, which started around 1900, is similar except the cowboy rides a horse and spurs it on in rhythm with its bucks while hanging in with one hand. Saddle bronc riding is where the rider uses a saddle with no horn and holds onto reins with one hand and tries to have as smooth and stylish of a ride as possible by moving in sync with the horse’s bucks. The second night is “Kid’s Day” where children can meet the cowboys and rodeo clowns and learn how to throw a lasso. They can also compete in their own event—stick horse races.
