Established in 1978 as The Ballet Theatre of Annapolis, The Ballet Theatre of Maryland changed its name in 2000 to reflect its mission of serving the entire state of Maryland. They have been the resident company at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis for their entire 40+ year history but tour throughout the state with their breathtaking performances. The company performs over 20 full-length professional ballet performances a year, including both classical and contemporary styles. Past performances have included an annual production of The Nutcracker as well as The Sleeping Beauty, Innovations, Giselle and others. In addition to their full-length performances, The Ballet Theatre Of Maryland presents dozens of mini-performances and 1-hour excerpts each year as part of their mission to educate the community and make ballet accessible to all. The company is able to draw talent from across the country with its Trainee and Apprenticeship Training Program. They also work with Head Start having children create sets and costumes, develop choreography and outline a story based on Ballet Theatre of Maryland’s production of The Little Mermaid.
