Started by Kerry Alexander and Chris Hoge while students at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., Bad Bad Hats brings “90s rock simplicity and pop-punk frivolity.” Alexander was playing original folk music and punk covers when she met Chris, who played drums and wanted to start a band. Noah Boswell joined them later and the three became the Bad Bad Hats, known and loved for their smooth sound along with their honest, powerful lyrics.
Their first release, an EP titled It Hurts, came out in 2013, and their first full-length album, Psychic Reader, came out in 2015. The positive reviews from Psychic Reader opened up more gigs for them with Third Eye Blind and Margaret Glaspy. Their music grew and evolved, becoming more multidimensional, richer and more well-received. Their next album in 2018, Lightning Round, brought back the blend of pop, folk and rock with a more polished synth-pop sound. In 2021, they released their album Walkman, bringing a catchy rhythm and lyrics that captured thoughts and feelings we experience with a simplicity that flows.
