The Austin Peay Governors Softball team represents their university located in Clarksville, Tenn.  The Governors currently compete in the NCAA Division I Ohio Valley Conference but are scheduled to join the Atlantic Sun Conference after the 2022 season. They play their home games on Cheryl Holt Field, which was named for the program's first coach. 

The Governors posted a program-best 39 wins in 2018 and earned their first bid to the National Invitational Softball Championship. They finished second in the OVC with a 17-4 record led by Pitcher of the Year Morgan Rackel and Freshman of the Year Bailey Shorter. Coach Kassie Stanfill took over the next season and built on that success as the team set or tied single-season marks with the highest team fielding percentage, fewest errors committed and most saves in 2021. The team finished third in the conference standings as well for the third time in four seasons.
