Hadelich was born in Cecina, Italy, to German parents. He began studying violin at age five under the tutelage of his father, an amateur cellist. He progressed quickly in his studies through irregular lessons and masterclasses from traveling violinists near his family’s rural Tuscany farm. He received musical inspiration and guidance from the likes of Uto Ughi, Christoph Poppen, Igor Ozim and Norbert Branin.
After an unfortunate, fire-related injury on his family’s farm in Italy, Hadelich was airlifted to a hospital in Germany for treatment. Although unable to play his instrument for a year after the accident, he saw light at the end of the tunnel.
In an interview, he stated, “It is perhaps because of this experience — because I had this moment where I wasn’t sure if I would ever play the violin again — that I appreciate what is happening in my life more. I really try to enjoy every moment. It made me realize how important music was to me.”
Hadelich graduated at the top of his class post-recovery and successfully auditioned for a spot at New York’s esteemed Julliard School. Altogether, Hadelich has won the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, filled in for Julian Rachlin at the Hollywood Bowl and performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
