Three years later in 1963, his father splurged on a used set of drums. This ultimately began the journey that would make this young lad known as "Wild man" from Lynyrd Skynyrd - but before all that fame and fortune came an eventful youth spent mostly riding horses or operating heavy machinery like tractors while growing up poor near Louisville, Kentucky.

Pyle was a household name in the early seventies playing for the biggest country bands like Charlie Daniels and the Marshall Tucker Band. In 1974, when Bob Burns parted ways with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pyle was called up to duty for the next four years. He toured with the band and recorded numerous albums until a catastrophic plane crash killed three of the members.
