It was recorded downriver in Memphis' legendary Sam Phillips Recording Service, mastered by GRAMMY-winning Matt Ross-Spang, and features an all-star Memphis band that includes Ken Coomer, David Smith, Will Sexton, Rick Steff, Jessie Munson, and Reba Russell. McKinley's songs are imbued with emotion and honesty from a wounded heart that has been healed by soulful Sunday morning confessions.
His poetry is stark, startling, and compelling in its candor, written as it was from real-life experience. Outside of church, he grew up listening to his Kentucky native father's bluegrass and timeless country albums by Hank Williams, Sr. as well as Bob Dylan, Otis Redding, and George Jones. His two older brothers' metal and punk record collection motivated him to dive headfirst into the Cincinnati punk scene.
