At only seven years old she also got her first shot at fame, performing a jingle for a drink popular in the Dominican Republic. Carrasco would spend many years appearing on TV with her musical talent well before starting a formal career in the 1970s as one of Latin America’s biggest divas of the period.
Carrasco became known in Spain when she was seen on-screen as Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar in the 1970s, with songs such as “Carino Mio” and “Quererte a Ti” giving her exposure to the world at large. Some of her contemporaries she worked with include Susana Gimenez, Charytin Goyco and Yolandita Monge. Other albums she became known for include “Muy Personal” which made up the bulk of some of her most popular songs, even being performed to this day. Carrasco was awarded the “Lo Nuestro Award for Tropical Female Artist of the Year” in 1993. Carrasco also saw her single “Boca Rosa” peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart in 1988.
