After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in English, Lee became a schoolteacher and bartender where he started to play at open mic nights in Philadelphia. His manager hired him to be an opening act with Mose Allison and B.B. King and sent his demo tape to multiple studios with a representative from Blue Note Records immediately liking his voice and music.
Before long, Amos Lee began to work with popular artists like Norah Jones to open her 'Norah Jones & The Handsome Band' tour and he even toured with Bob Dylan in 2005. Lee would soon start to tour on his own with his self-titled album as his music. Since the start of his career, Amos Lee has released more than seven albums. His sophomore album, Supply and Demand (2006), was met with positive praise and had one single "Shout Out Loud" which landed at No. 76 on the Billboard 200.
