The group was formed in 2008 by friends Miles Michaud, Matthew Correia, Spencer Dunham and Pedrum Siadatian. They had all worked at Amoeba Records, where they grew close and started jamming. They released their first recording, “Catamaran/Long Journey,” in 2011. They put out another single, “Tell Me (What's on Your Mind)/Sacred Sands,” the following year. The song was met with positive reviews, with critics noting influences like The Kinks, The Zombies and even Northern Soul.
Allah-Las were featured in a Daytrotter session in 2012, where their performance was named one of the top 200 Daytrotter songs of the year. They also released their self-titled debut LP, which was named one of the 25 best psychedelic rock albums of the 2010s by Happy Mag. Their sound has been described as “effortlessly wistful,” “carefree” and “breezy.” Allah-Las toured throughout the United States and Europe before releasing Worship the Sun in 2014. The band released their third album, Calico Review, in 2016. They released an EP, Covers #1, the following year. In it, Allah-Las covered songs from George Harrison, Television, Kathy Heideman, and Further. Their sound had changed, and critics observed a “palpable melancholy” at play in each song. The band continued to evolve in their 2019 album LAHS, which has been called “the perfect atmospheric soundtrack for a backyard party” while containing “little sunshine.”
