She got her acting start when she caught the eye of director David Lynch as she was reciting Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on a TV show at the age of 5. Witt was talking by the time she was 2 and was reading by age 4, being described as a child prodigy. She also worked with Lynch in her film and television career, first being cast in roles in movies like Dune (1984), Twin Peaks, and Cybill. Later, she also starred in Urban Legend, Citizen Ruth, Ally McBeal, and The Sopranos.

Witt also plays piano, sings, and writes songs. From the age of 10 to 14, she took four piano lessons a week and competed nationally. She released her self-titled EP album in 2009, followed by two more albums within the following years. She joined the cast of Nashville in 2016, playing singer Autumn Chase, an established country singer.

Witt has joined the theatre as well, making her stage debut in 2001, at the Tiffany Theatre where she starred in The Gift, a musical by Robbie Fox. She has also performed at the New Ambassadors Theatre in a stage production of Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things, the Royal Court Theatre in Piano/Forte, and in Neil LaBute’s play Reasons to Be Pretty, alongside actress Amber Tamblyn at the Geffen Playhouse.
