Mist was born in 1991 in Newham, London, and originally pursued a career as a professional soccer player. He began making music as a teenager, later earning a degree in music composition from Newham Sixth Form College. Though his earliest work was in producing hip-hop instrumentals, he developed an interest in jazz and taught himself to play piano after watching a performance by his music tutor.
In 2015 Mist released his debut EP Nocturne, which earned widespread praise for his innovative blend of disparate musical elements. He then founded the Sekito record label and set off on a string of collaborations with high-profile artists including Yussef Dayes, Tom Misch and Jordan Rakei. In 2021 he released his album Bring Backs through the Anti- label, and gave a celebrated performance at the We Out Here Festival. Later that year he would be nominated for a MOBO Award.
