He showed immense talent from an early age, giving his first concert at only nine years old. Gavrylyuk moved to Australia in his early teens before winning the Vladimir Horowitz Competition in 1999. In the following years, he would win both the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan and the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition in Israel.

Gavrylyuk went on to give a number of landmark solo recitals at premier venues including The Konzerthaus Berlin, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Wiener Musikverein in Vienna. The pianist has performed with several world-class orchestras, most notably with the Moscow Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony and Royal Scottish National Orchestras.

In 2011 Gavrylyuk recorded the concertos of Sergei Prokofiev with famed conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, to widespread praise. The success led the pianist to collaborate with further esteemed conductors including Vladimir Jurowski and Yuri Simonov. Gavrylyuk was selected as 2003's Named Steinway Artist, and in 2017 gave a celebrated performance with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra as part of the London Proms.
