He was born in 1949 in Geneva and learned piano with his mother's encouragement. Morisod went on to study at the University of Geneva and then the Conservatoire de Musique in the early 1970s.

Morisod's career began with accompanying Swiss singers like Arlette Zola and Fernand Reynaud. He released his single in 1971, "Concerto Pour un Ete," which became a charting hit in France and abroad. In 1977, Morisod created the band Sweet People as part of the Eurovision Song Contest, and two years later, the group released their song "Le Lac de Come," which became a number one hit in Canada. The song's album went on to be certified platinum.

Sweet People released several charting hits through the 1980s and have over half a dozen albums certified gold or platinum by Music Canada. Alain Morisod has served as songwriter and commentator for multiple Eurovision Song Contests and hosted his television show Les Coups de Cœur d'Alain Morisod from the late 1990s through the 2010s.
