The group formed in 1976 after the members met at Kentucky State University. They released their first album, The Beginning, in 1980 under the SOLAR Records label, and the album allowed them to gain some local traction in the disco scene. Their second album, Standing Together, came out a year later and made it to the #54 spot on the U.S. R&B chart.
The band's big breakout came in 1984 when they released their fourth album titled No Parking on the Dance Floor. The album made it to #2 on the Top Black Albums Chart and later went double platinum in the United States. “Freak-A-Zoid,” a single from the album, also charted and allowed the band to grow in popularity. This big break was followed by a succession of popular singles, including “Wet My Whistle” and “Headlines.”
