Born March 9, 1942, in Eugene, Oregon, Mark Lindsay would rise to fame as the lead singer of the 60s rock band Paul Revere & the Raiders. As the band progressed, Lindsay took more and more control over the creative direction of the band, often producing the records and eventually writing or co-writing the majority of their hits including “Good Thing”, “Too Much Talk”, and “Mr. Sun, Mr.
Moon”. In 1970 he issued his first solo single, “First Hymn From the Grand Terrace”, which had a much less rock sound, and gave him a hit on the easy listening charts. He alternated between solo releases and Raiders work, having one of his biggest successes on his own with the 1970 single “Arizona”, a top 10 hit featured on an album of the same name. He penned the group’s only number 1 song, “Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)”, which topped the charts in 1971, but the song featured none of the other band members and was originally intended to be a solo single from Lindsay.
